Poker's super high rollers will be returning to the capital later this year after the World Poker Tour announced details of an Alpha 8 event in London.

The Palm Beach Casino in Mayfair will host the £60,000 buy-in tournament on 6 and 7 October. Germany's Philipp Gruissem won last year's maiden WPT Alpha 8 event, pocketing £862,400 after topping a 20 entrant field.

The Alpha 8 will also be making its first trip to Las Vegas later in the year. The Bellagio will host the $100,000 buy-in tournament which has been scheduled to coincide with the $10,300 buy-in WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic.

“We are truly honored to announce WPT Alpha8 London and WPT Alpha8 Las Vegas as our first events of WPT Alpha8 Season 2,” said WPT President Adam Pliska. “Not only are we returning to one of the most prestigious locations in the world at the Palm Beach Casino in Mayfair, but we are also bringing WPT Alpha8 to the home of high-stakes poker at Bellagio in Las Vegas, where we are already expecting to draw one of the largest fields in WPT Alpha8 history.”

Super high roller events proved a big hit in Vegas during the summer with Ole Schemion and Dan Smith scooping massive scores.
