The first leg of the latest European Poker Tour (EPT) season got underway yesterday in Barcelona and PokerStars celebrated by hosting a special 'home game' in honour of Neymar Jr.

The Barcelona FC player recently became a representative for PokerStars and the operator marked the signing of the Brazilian as its latest ambassador by hosting the special charity tournament.

Although Neymar Jr wasn't able to attend the event himself due to his footballing commitments, the tournament formed the opening of EPT Season 12 and welcomed 59 players. Each anteing up €150, the likes of Jan Heitmann, Leo Margets and Jonathan Spaeren all fought for glory in the name of charity.

Despite the aim of the day being to raise money for the Neymar Jr Project Institute, the action at the felt was as intense as ever and that made for some highly entertaining poker from the rail. From the start of the event it was clear O'Dwyer was going to be a force and, as he knocked out player after player, he gradually edged into the lead.

In fact, by the time the final table rolled around it was O'Dwyer who was responsible for the first five eliminations. That cull put him in pole position and by the time he found himself heads-up with Thomas Udness it would take just a few hands before he lifted the trophy.

Delivering a swift one-two combination to the Norwegian pro, O'Dwyer was eventually given a moment to stand in the spotlight before the organisers handed him a free seat into the main event of the upcoming EPT Barcelona, which gets underway from Monday.
