Sports Betting Goes Live on PokerStars

Friday, 29 May 2015

After months of talk, PokerStars has finally released its sports betting platform in the UK. Going live yesterday afternoon, the new portal is fully integrated into the main PokerStars client and contains a small but diverse range of betting options.

Ever since Amaya Gaming took control of PokerStars, the online poker site has undergone a number of changes and the company's CEO, David Baazov, has continually stated that sports betting would be brought into the mix.

Keeping the exact launch date a secret meant an undercurrent of anticipation as swept through the community over the last few months, but that tension was finally released yesterday when the new platform went live.

Before any official notices were sent out to registered players, the software quietly kicked into life around the same time PokerStars announced the signing of football legend, Cristiano Ronaldo.

With the new platform seemingly free from any glitches, a message was quickly fired across cyberspace to alter poker players about a potentially lucrative new side option inside PokerStars' platform.

As yet the range of sports is fairly limited, but the operator has promised its football, rugby union, tennis, ice hockey baseball, basketball and volleyball options will be augmented in the coming weeks.

All existing PokerStars players in the UK can access the new sports betting platform immediately, but new customers will have to create a real money account before they can get in on the action.
