Sorel Mizzi takes 2010 Bluff Player of the Year title

Tuesday, 4 January 2011

The Bluff magazine Player of the Year points are tallied up and it is Titan Poker pro Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi who runs away with the title after racking up a record score of 1,777 points. He held NAPT champs Tom Marchese and Vanessa Selbst off the top spot after an incredible year.

He began it in fine fashion Down Under when he took third place in the Aussie Millions Main Event for $660,000 before taking down not one but two side events at the EPT Snowfest for $150,000 – and it was only March!

Mizzi then won the Borgata Spring Open for $170,000 before moving on to the EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final, making the final table for almost $200,000. The next High Roller event saw him finish runner-up to Freddy Deeb at WPT Paris, winning $160,000. He rounded off the year with two deep runs in World Poker Tour events and coming runner-up in yet another High Roller event, this one at EPT Tallinn.

Regardless of this stellar, $1.9m performance, he had stiff competition from breakout tournament star Tom “kingsofcards” Marchese, high stakes online cash player. Marchese had a staggering year of final tables including his victory at the PokerStars NAPT Venetian for $825,000. He also made two EPT final tables, a WPT final table, a WSOP final table and rounded off the year nicely with a victory at the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond $1,000 preliminary event to take his 2010 (and lifetime) tournament earnings to over $2.1m.

Personally we take the Harry Hill view – we like Marchese but we like Mizzi... FIGHT!
