Sorel Mizzi Heads PCA High Roller
Thursday, 8 January 2015
Sorel Mizzi is in pole position heading into the final day of the $100,000 PCA High Roller.
The Canadian heads a stellar final seven who will be chasing a massive first prize of $1,872,580 when the action resumes at 6pm UK time.
Mizzi returns with a stack of 4,800,000 giving him a healthy advantage over America's Roger Sippl (3,255,000) and 2013 Bluff Europe Player of the Year Steve O'Dwyer (2,925,000).
November's WPT Nottingham High Roller winner Bryn Kenney (2,410,000) lies in fourth. Of course a Super High Roller finale wouldn't be complete without a German player, in this case Christoph Vogelsang (1,540,000).
Rounding out the final table are American star Andrew Robl (1,370,000) and Canada's Sam Greenwood (705,000).
Fifty players bought in a total of 66 times to take the total prize pool to a record-breaking $6,402,000. The cash would be shared between nine of them with David Peters the unfortunate man to hit the rail in tenth.
Peters looked in good shape for a double up with pocket tens against Mizzi's Qh7c. The Canadian hit his queen though to bust Peters on the stone bubble.
Last year's PCA High Roller winner Jake Schindler enjoyed another deep run but was forced to settle for a min-cash of $185,660 after his AdKd couldn't hold against Sippl's AcJc.
Scott Seiver was the other player to make the money on the penultimate day, busting in eighth for $243,280 when his Kh7c couldn't outdraw Steve O'Dwyer's AsQh.
The final table chip counts are as follows:
Sorel Mizzi, Canada, 4,800,000
