Sirionas Tops Friend to Lift GUKPT Cardiff Title

Sirionas Tops Friend to Lift GUKPT Cardiff Title

Monday, 7 July 2014

The GUKPT's latest visit to Cardiff last week resulted in 177 players vying for the lion's share of a £100,000 prizepool but when the chips were down it was Vaidas Sirionas who stood victorious.

The circuit regular managed to weave his way through a tough field to take control of the £500 Main Event in the final stages of match. However, as the field thinned and players fell by the wayside, Sirionas wasn't able to shake off Mick Corrigan.

Having travelled to the event together in the same car, Sirionas and Corrigan seemed to have a strong connection with each other and by the time the made it heads-up a deal looked inevitable.

Like true friends the pair decided to split the remaining prize money 50/50 before playing for the title. With £24,000 each the two players swapped the chip lead multiple times in the final battle, but when the betting was over it was Sirionas who was able to enjoy the drive home after his pocket queens were able to best Corrigan's Ac Qd.
