Satellite winners leave for Austria

Thursday, 20 July 2017

Juicy Stakes and Intertops Poker have announced that the winners of their recent three-stage online poker satellite tournament series have left for Austria in order to compete in the 2017 edition of the European Poker Championship.

The Horizon Poker Network sites awarded the winners of these April competitions with prize packages into the main event of this year’s European Poker Championship each worth $4,000 and encompassing their $2,862 buy-in along with cash for accommodation and travel expenses.

This year’s main event for the Casinos Austria-organized tournament series is being held from July 27 to July 30 at the Casino Velden in the small Carinthian market town of Velden and is expecting to see players from all over Europe including large numbers of Italian and German competitors battling it out over in excess of 40 tables for a share of the estimated $770,000 prize pool.

A tennis coach named ‘Sven’ will be among these runners after the German won one of the prize packages on offer from Intertops Poker. The player stated that he has only previously competed in ‘a few’ live poker tournaments with small buy-ins although this will be his second appearance at the European Poker Championship.

“Last year there were a lot of good players and a big prize pool,” read a statement from ‘Sven’. “Like last year, I’ll make this a vacation; go swimming and go out a little bit and then play the tournament. The casino is very beautiful and there are a lot of cash games to play as well.”

Another man due to be appearing at the Austrian tables next week is a professional poker player named ‘Derek’. The Los Angeles resident also bagged his prize package courtesy of Intertops Poker and the Californian revealed that he will endeavor to remain calm in order to go deep in the tournament.

“My strategy for online tournaments is to stay cool in the early stages and try to find good spots to make chips with the best hand,” read a statement from ‘Derek’. “In the later stages, I get more and more aggressive. The best is winning the pots without a showdown, especially in the late stages.”

Last year saw a trio of Juicy Stakes and Intertops Poker online poker satellite tournament winners in Tim O’Keefe, Gabor Kresco and Emil Hegedus compete at the Casinos Austria tournament with the latter finishing in sixth spot for a pay-day of $26,000.

“Intertops Poker and Juicy Stakes welcome players from anywhere in the world,” read a joint statement from the pair. “We’re the busiest online poker rooms on the Horizon Poker Network and also offer a selection of casino games. Video reports from the 2017 European Poker Championship featuring interviews with the players will be online beginning from July 27.”
