Sam Grafton heads GUKPT Grand Final

Friday, 22 November 2013

With a guaranteed prize pool of £400,000 on offer, the GUKPT Grand Final was always going to attract plenty of top talent and so it proved with a host of big names at the Vic yesterday for the first opening flight.

By the close of day 1a it was defending champion Sam Grafton who was in pole position for a repeat. 'The Squid' will return tomorrow with a stack of 159,325, that despite losing a chunk of change after being bluffed off pocket kings on an ace high flop by an opponent who revealed pocket queens.

There's a big gap back to former Fox Main Event winner Joe Laming (108,050) and this year's UKIPT London winner Sergio Aido (107,075) who were the only other players to crack six figures.

As you'd expect, there are plenty of notable names amongst the 44 day 1a survivors including JP Kelly (80,625), last week's Amsterdam Master Classics of Poker finalist Charlie Combes (79,850), Unibet Open London winner Pratik Ghatge (78,850), GUKPT Manchester winner Sunny Chattha (64,000) and last year's GUKPT Main Event third placed finisher Victor Ilyukhin (63,725).

A much bigger field is expected for day 1b which gets under way at noon today. Join us throughout the weekend for updates from the Vic.
