Scientific Game Corporation (SGC), a global gaming and lottery provider, has just agreed to purchase WMS Industries.
Paying approximately $1.5 billion, SGC will take control of WMS – an Illinois-based slot machine manufacturer – in a bid to over a “complete portfolio of lottery and gaming products” including online poker.Indeed, with both companies already having a major influence in the US gaming market, this move is being seen as one which could lead to the emergence of a powerful entity in the online poker market.Indeed, with strong ties to 888, SGC seems to have a strong foothold in a market which will inevitably be regulated sometime in the future.Although there are some final procedures to go through before the deal is completed, SGC’s CEO, Lorne Weil, said: “We expect to combine our game content, technology, operational capabilities and respective geographic footprints to create an enterprise poised to capitalize on significant growth opportunities around the globe.”Keep up to date with all the news from the poker world by following us on Twitter and Facebook.
