Richard Sinclair wins UKIPT Newcastle
Tuesday, 21 June 2011
Scotland can toast its first winner on the PokerStars UKIPT after Richard Sinclair took the honours in Newcastle yesterday evening. The 36-year-old pro went in to the final table as the chip leader and kept up the pressure throughout what proved to be a rapid fire concluding day.
After Rakesh Gupta was eliminated in third it was left to Sinclair and Brummie Rajesh Verma to battle it out for the title. Heads up play didn't last long, understandable really when Sinclair was dealt pocket Aces and Verma KQs. The Aces held up to give the Lothian native his first major live title (though he has cashed in the last two WSOP Main Events).
The final table positions and payouts were as follows:
1st: Richard Sinclair, United Kingdom, £67,000
2nd: Raj Verma, United Kingdom, £40,400
3rd: Rakesh Paul Gupta, United Kingdom, £24,700
4th: Barry Foley, Ireland, £18,100
5th: Tim Slater, United Kingdom, £14,050
6th: Jonathan Gawith, United Kingdom,£11,210
7th: Tadhg Ryan, Ireland, £8,580
8th: James Morris, United Kingdom, £6,510
In addition to the Main Event there were a number of side events. Pawel Brzeski took the honours in the £100 freezeout, beating a 135-runner field to the £3,660 first prize. Simon Higgins won the £100 six-max event for £3,550 with Thomas Dunwoodie winning £2,800 in the £100 charity event. Daniel Laming rounded out the side event winners, bagging £12,800 after winning the £300 tournament.
