According to the live blog, the final table of this year's GUKPT Manchester was "one of the best in GUKPT history" and when the chips were down it was Rhys Jones who walked away with the title.

Despite early fears that the tournament would generate a huge overlay (at one point it was almost £100,000), the masses eventually descended on Manchester's Grosvenor Casino and by the close of registration 192 players had anted up.

That meant an overlay of just £8,000 and by the time the action reached a final table it looked as though Simon Deadman would claim yet another title.

Having secured the chip lead on the penultimate day, Deadman was able to bully his way through the final table and see off the likes of Karl Mahrenholz and Richard Kellett on his way to a heads-up confrontation with Jones.

However, before the race for the title could begin a three-way deal between Deadman, Jones and Steve Warburton resulted in each player locking up £39,000.

With £4,000 and the title left to play for Jones began to take control and after Warburton exited in third the young pro was able to maintain his composure against the onslaught of Deadman.

Indeed, after coming from behind, Jones managed to apply a consistent amount of pressure on Deadman and eventually clinched the final pot when his J-9 rivered a straight to outdo his opponent's K-2.

With that a jubilant Jones posed for the cameras as the latest GUKPT champion whilst Deadman headed for the rail to collect his consolation prize.
