Record breaking Triobet Open starts today

Friday, 17 June 2011

Estonia probably isn't the first place you'd think of when considering locations for the biggest attended poker event in Europe. Tallinn's Saku Suurhall will earn that accolade this weekend though in the form of the Triobet Open which gets under way today.

An international field of 1,100 players, including NBA star Martin Müürsepp, will be taking their seats for the opening day of the €40 buy-in event today with over €40,000 in prize money up for grabs. The winner of the tournament will turn his (or her) initial €40 investment into a whopping €10,000 as well as grabbing a package to the World Series of Poker.

“Here at TrioBet, we search continually for new ways to turn poker into a game, which is easily accessible by all players regardless of level”, states Veiko Krünberg, main organizer of the event and TrioBet Brand Manager in Baltic States. “With our poker players in mind, we decided to turn the tournament into a kind of festival, unlike regular poker tournaments that only seem to include a minority of local players.“

“As events of this scale have never been organized in Europe before, no-one can fully imagine the atmosphere and emotional feelings brought together with such a tournament, “ Krünberg said. “One thing is clear – TrioBet is going to do everything it our powers to make sure that our players enjoy the festival and that it doesn't mean just a game of poker”.

This year's TrioBet Open marks the tenth anniversary of tournament poker in Estonia and the growth of the game in the small Baltic country over that decade has been spectacular especially considering that just six players took part in the first tournament in 2001.

Join us on Monday to see who is celebrating.
