Thursday, 19 February 2015

Raising for Effective Giving (REG), the charity founded by a group of poker players including Liv Boeree, Philipp Gruissem and Igor Kurganov, has released its latest financial report which revealed that donors gave a total of $369,053 between October and December.

The latest figures take the total donations by REG since launching in July 2014 past the $500,000 mark.

“We are happy to announce that the second REG quarter was highly successful in terms of donations,” read a statement from the charity. “In part, this is due to REG having acquired a larger membership base as well as because people tend to donate more at the end of the year. But the main reason for the great increase in donations is that REG members had a very successful quarter, with Martin Jacobson winning the WSOP Main Event.”

REG tries to use the analytical skills needed in poker to make the best decisions in the charity sector.

“The idea behind effective giving is to rely on science and rational decision-making in order to find the most effective interventions.”

Players get involved by pledging to donate 2% of their gross winnings each quarter. To get involved, visit Reg-Charity.org.
