Punta Cana Action Comes To A Close

Thursday, 3 November 2016

Americas Cardroom has released its fifth and final sponsored video chronicling the action from the Punta Cana Poker Classic 2016, which ended on Sunday with Latvian player Eduards Kudrjavcevs taking the main event title and its $143,675 first-place prize.

The US-facing Winning Poker Network domain began its video coverage from the Dominican Republic last week following a number of online poker players that had won their seats into the $1,650 buy-in Punta Cana Poker Classic 2016 main event via its promotions.

In the fifth episode, which is entitled Trip Of A Lifetime For First-Timers, several online players that won their way to the Caribbean relate their happiness at competing in their inaugural live tournament abroad.

“There’s lot of money to be won at a tournament like this and that attracts lots of professional players,” related the host of the video series, Larry Colcy.

“I’ve seen the ‘homeless millionaire’, Faraz Jaka, Twitch poker wizard Doug Polk and Josh Beckley, the second-placed finisher at the 2015 World Series Of Poker main event, here but there are also a lot of players here that have never been out of America, never mind competing in a big tournament. They’ve won their way here in online tournaments and are having the time of their lives.”

Colcy declared that the main event of the recent Punta Cana Poker Classic 2016, which was held at The Level At Melia Caribe Tropical Punta Cana, surpassed its $500,000 guarantee by over $200,000 and drew players from all over the world.

“It’s been great, you can’t beat it,” said tournament newbie Scott McKenzie from California, who is just one of the players interviewed for the final video report.

“For just $50 I won a $4,900 package playing The Beast one Sunday at Americas Cardroom. I cashed out my buy-in and hit 41st place, so it’s just been a great overall experience. This is my first big tournament so I was really nervous. Everyone told me I was playing way too tight but I think that’s a great thing to hear from the best in the world. Anyone can do it. If I’m here, I’m living proof. It’s a great time, you’ve got to come.”
