Pratik Ghatge wins Unibet Open

Monday, 17 September 2012

The latest Main Event at the London Poker Festival saw a home victory as the capital's Pratik Ghatge took the honours at the Unibet Open.

Historian turned cash game pro Ghatge outlasted a bumper field of 312 runners to walk away with a first prize of just over £85,050.

“I ran pretty good today from the get-go,” said the magnanimous winner, “I got a lot of hands, and I picked up a lot of chips. I’m really happy with myself and the patience I’ve shown.”

The Londoner worked his way through a final table that included 2010 Unibet Open winner Paul Valkenburg and fellow Brit Gavin Eley before defeating Poland's Tomasz Kozub heads up. Ghatge started two handed play with an almost two to one chip advantage and slowly ground his way to a dominant position, eventually sealing victory when his A7 held against the Pole's Q-10o.

And what will the champ be doing with the cash? A car, a deposit on a flat, a bankroll boost? He told the Unibet Open blog that he's planning to spend a chunk on a big blowout in Vegas. We wish him well.
