Prague Triumph For Steve O'Dwyer

Prague Triumph For Steve O'Dwyer

Friday, 11 December 2015

Steve O'Dwyer has become the first player in the history of the European Poker Tour (EPT) to win two of its super high-roller events after taking the honours in Prague on Thursday.

The Ireland-based American topped a high-class final table in the Czech capital after outlasting the likes of John Juanda, Luuk Gieles, Daniel Dvoress and Thomas Muehlocker en route to the win.

O'Dwyer started the final round of action in third spot but a crazy spell inside the Hilton Prague Hotel soon saw the 33-year-old move from the short-stack position to one of dominance following only eight hands.

After Russian challenger Igor Kurganov was eliminated in third, O'Dwyer and heads-up opponent Sam Greenwood agreed a chop with €22,315 ($24,497) left on top. When his Canadian opponent subsequently moved all in on a QdJc4s6s5d board, Colorado-born O'Dwyer made the call with Js10d and secured the title and a total cash prize of €746,543 ($819,807).

It's been quite a year for O’Dwyer as he began 2015 by taking down the super high-roller event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) in The Bahamas to earn himself €1,707,073 ($1,872,580) before following up with a string of wins in Macau, Finland and Malta. This latest triumph takes his annual earnings to €4,399,595 ($4,826,036) while his career income now stands at an impressive €10,983,914 ($12,043,261).
