PokerStars launches UK/Ireland Online Poker Championship

PokerStars launches UK/Ireland Online Poker Championship

Thursday, 14 October 2010

The World Championship of Online Poker is done and dusted for 2010 after offering the second-largest prize in tournament poker this year after the World Series of Poker Main Event. However, we can get our tournament hats on again but this time there are relatively affordable buy-ins, satellites for peanuts and an exclusively British Isles field.

The UK Championship of Online Poker will include players from the UK, Ireland and the Isle of Man – where PokerStars is based – and will be playing out 11 events between December 5 and December 12, guaranteeing a total prize pool of $512,500. This is part of the Regional Championships of Online Poker that PokerStars are hosting all over the world with a total guarantee of $7,000,000.

You can gain an idea of Poker’s popularity in various parts of the world by looking at the prize pools – the UKCOOP is the fourth-largest after Canada ($580,000); Scandinavia ($700,000); middle Europe (Germanics; €828,000) and the USA ($3,275,000).

Full details have not yet been released, but we’ll put a bet on the following: satellites starting at $1.10 or 1FPP; a WCOOP package for the winner of each regional tournament; perhaps some sort of champions worldwide freeroll with a huge prize? PokerStars rarely disappoints.
