PokerStars' move to enter the sports betting arena will happen "in the coming days" according to the head of Amaya, David Baazov.
In a quarterly update call with various members of the media, Baazov explained that Q4 2014 had been a record period for Amaya thanks to the acquisition of PokerStars and Full Tilt. During that time the sites had welcomed more than two million new customers and Spin & Go tournaments had delivered strong returns.Overall, this influx of fresh blood and increased interest in new game formats saw the company rake in $291m ($67.9 million in profit) during the final three months of 2014. This level of revenue was not only a major boost for Amaya, but the catalyst it needed to push forward with its sports betting plan. The new software is expected to go live very soon and with it a new selection of betting options will become available for players. "We anticipate the launch of sports betting in certain markets in the coming days with an expansion across the network to take place through the first half of 2015," said Baazov. In addition to opening up new sports betting facilities, Baazov also announced that he is looking into other areas of the igaming world, including Daily Fantasy Sports. Hoping to implement a new product as quickly as possible (before the start of the NFL season in September), the aim is to become the biggest all-round gaming hub in the world."Going forward, Amaya intends to acquire new customers and gain online gaming market share through the continued expansion of the B2C business in other verticals, including sports betting, casino, social gaming and daily fantasy sports, which we expect will supplement our current growth plans for our core poker business."
