Poker the Subject of Bones Episode

Poker the Subject of Bones Episode

Wednesday, 22 April 2015

Poker will receive some more exposure in the mainstream media soon courtesy of hit US TV show, Bones. The episode, which airs tomorrow on FOX, will see the show's lead character, FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (played by David Boreanaz), delving into the world of underground poker to solve another murder case.

Although the exact nature of Booth's involvement with the game is being kept under wraps, those with knowledge of the show will know he used to have a gambling problem which could suggest things get out of hand.

Whether or not the writers have chosen to use this addiction to portray poker in a negative light is unclear, but throughout the show Booth does have a poker chip on him to "remind him of his gambling days."

In real life, Bonus actor David Boreanaz is no stranger to poker and that's potentially one of the reasons the writers decided to pen an episode featuring the game. Over the years the former star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has been a regular feature of celebrity and charity poker events for a wide range of causes, but whether he's any good remains a mystery (he certainly doesn't have any Hendon Mob entries).

Regardless of how poker is portrayed in the next episode of Bones, there's a saying that no press is bad press and if this is true then the game will receive another healthy shot in the arm this Thursday.
