Irish poker pro and BoylePoker representative John O’Shea will step into the boxing ring this December to take on his friend and fellow poker pro Ross Johnson.
Leopardstown Pavillion in Dublin will be the venue for the fight, with each player donning a pair of gloves in aid of motor neuron disease. Sizing up the bout, there’s little doubt that O’Shea has the better poker record on paper with live earnings in excess of $800,000. However, according to Rob Smyth the event’s organiser, “Ross has got the more powerful punch”.Whether Ross can land a knockout punch remains to be seen though as he is currently battling to lose 11kg in the run up to the fight. The bout had originally been scheduled to take place this summer in Las Vegas, but with strong performances from both players during the Main Event the event was postponed until a later date.Poker and boxing seem to be developing a close relationship with a number of pros, including Liv Boeree, Gus Hansen and Theo Jorgensen, having stepped into the squared circle to settle their difference in the aid of charity. At present many people are tipping O’Shea for the win but as the event draws closer, BoyleSports will be offering official betting odds on the match.Keep up to date with all the news from the poker world by following us on Twitter and Facebook.
