Players Refuse to Play Finale in Slovak Tourney

A live poker tournament at the Golden Vegas Casino, Slovakia, was thrown into chaos last weekend after the players at the final table refused to take their seats.

Rumours of the incident hit the forums earlier this week after some community investigation and help from Google's translator, it emerged that the final nine players made a protest after the organisers refused to meet the guarantee.

Despite being a €300 buy-in event, the organisers had allegedly advertised that there would be a €100,000 guaranteed prizepool. However, after the numbers dwindled on Day 1b, the money collected only hit €86,666 which meant €13,334 was left unaccounted for.

Under normal circumstances the organisers would make up the difference and ensure the prizepool hit the advertised amount; however, according to reports, the organisers of this event weren't prepared to do that.

With rumblings that the guarantee wouldn't be meant, the final nine decided to band together and defend their position until €100,000 was promised. Unfortunately, the organisers refused to meet the shortfall, claiming that the event's adverts referred to a "guaranteed money pool".

From the responses online, this term is one that's used in Slovak tournaments a lot but it doesn't seem to have any real meaning other than the money isn't guaranteed.

Regardless of the technicalities, the players at the final table refused to sit down and the event was eventually cancelled and each remaining player was given an equal cut of the final prizepool.
