Players, PokerStars & Full Tilt Raise $500k for Nepal Earthquake Fund

After learning of the devastating natural disaster that struck Nepal back in April, PokerStars and Full Tilt decided to stir up the support of the community and ask for donations to the CARE charity. Setting up a simple "click and give" page inside each platform, PokerStars and Full Tit then pledged to match any donations made by players.

To bolster the profile of the appeal, both sites run special promotional events throughout the month of May to help raise awareness for the plight of those left displaced by one of the strongest earthquakes in recent times.

Eventually, after a final push towards the end of the month, PokerStars finally revealed this week that the total amount raised through player and staff donations was an impressive $255,447. Showing once again that the poker community contains some of the most generous people in the world, the effort has certainly been a success.

In fact, after the counting was done and PokerStars/ Full Tilt added their contributions, the total amount raised for CARE reached $510,894, which is one of the largest amounts of money raised for charity by the community for many years.

Commenting on the appeal, a spokesperson for PokerStars said: "PokerStars players have opened their hearts (and wallets) to the less fortunate around the world; we are honoured to play a part in this assistance.
