Phil Ivey Wins Aussie Millions $250k (again!)
Monday, 2 February 2015
Phil Ivey has once again shown why he is one of poker's ultimate bosses after winning the Aussie Millions $250,000 Challenge for the third time in four years!
Ivey topped a stellar field of 25-runner fields to pocket a first prize of AU$2,205,000 (around US$1,720,000) in Melbourne overnight.
The latest triumph follows wins in the same event in 2012 for AU$2m and in 2014 for AU$4. In just this one tournament, albeit one with an extremely high buy-in, Ivey has won a mind-boggling US$6.4m.
This year's tournament attracted a typically high class field that included Sam Trickett, Philipp Gruissem, Ole Schemion, Isaac Haxton and British businessman Paul Newey. They would all depart with a big dent in their bankroll.
After seeing off the challenges of Erik Seidel, Scott Seiver and Doug Polk, Ivey sealed victory by defeating Mike McDonald heads-up.
Timex summed up the feelings of much of the poker world in a single, concise tweet!
Down Under, he definitely is.
