Paul Jackson leads UKIPT Newcastle

Considering how many British players have headed across the pond for the World Series there was a still an impressive field of 226 on hand for the opening flight of PokerStars UKIPT Newcastle which started at Aspers Casino yesterday.

At the close of play there was a familiar name if not a familiar face at the head of the chip counts, Paul Jackson. This Jackson isn't to be confused with the West Brom supporting, Bluff Europe columnist who is best known for banging heads with Phil Ivey.

Jackson mark two ended the opening flight with a stack of 138,800 putting him just ahead of Ralph Watson 120,000, Ciaran Boyle 98,000 and Rachael Costa 90,600. Other notables dotted amongst the 94 Day 1A survivors include Germany's Oliver Schaffman 68,000, Brett Angell 18,200, Gareth Walker 14,200 and Mark Trett 13,800.

Soul read of the day award goes to Will Poulsen who made a call with queen high on an A3444 board, a read that wouldn't look out of place in Matt Perry's recent best calls list.

The action at Aspers resumes at 2pm today with the second of two opening day flights.
