Full Tilt Poker’s UKIPT Galway festival is coming to the boil nicely after a week of preliminary events.
Having kicked off last week with a slew of low-to-mid range tournaments, the Irish poker party is now getting into full swing as the likes of Jake Cody, Steve O’Dwyer and Matt Perrins were just some of the names competing in the opening day of the Irish Poker Championship. When the day had come to a conclusion a total of 52 top players had sat down for the €2,500. As drinks flowed, the action gradually got looser and by the time Steve O’Dwyer arrived (at the end of level 3) he found himself needing a slice of luck to stay in contention. Fortunately, according to Steve’s recollections of the day, he had “aces seven times” and “kings three times” throughout the day and basically “won all the hands [he] entered”. Thanks to a healthy dose of positive variance Steve was able to finish the day with 265,400 chips which were enough to put him top of the leaderboard ahead of Max Silver (216,500) and Thomas Hall (186,100). Today’s second session will see the remaining 12 players whittled down to seven before the final day takes place on Wednesday. There's still just time to qualify for the €1m guaranteed UKIPT Galway Main Event at Full Tilt Poker. New players can earn a 100% first deposit bonus of up to $600.
