An undertaker in America faces up to 16 months in jail after being convicted of running an illegal poker ring reports the New York Daily News.

A jury at Brooklyn Federal Court took less than half an hour to find Joseph Fumando guilty of operating the underground games. The undertaker first came to the attention of the authorities after they overheard an undercover NYPD officer talk about the illegal game in Staten Island on a wiretap.

After a year-long undercover operation, agents arrested 13 suspects including Fumando as well as a former New York detecive and a pair of firefighters.

According to court papers, organisers of the game took a 5% from every pot.

To add further insult, Fumando may also lose his undertaker's licence!
