Negreanu Among WPT Five Diamond Leaders

Negreanu Among WPT Five Diamond Leaders

Wednesday, 17 December 2014

While European eyes have been focused on Prague, our American cousins have gathered at the Bellagio for the latest leg of the World Poker Tour.

A total of 582 entrants took to the tables for the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic with some very familiar faces heading to the top of the chip counts by the close of day two.

Chief among them is Daniel Negreanu. The PokerStars pro fired multiple re-entry bullets but it seems to have been worth it as he closed the day in fifth place on 224,000.

The remaining field of 210 runners is led by Iulian Iacob (288,700) who is followed closely by Larry Greenberg (282,000).

A host of big names are still in the hunt for a bumper pre-Christmas payday including Dan O'Brien (175,000), Fabian Quoss (174,300), Robert Mizrachi (172,000), Yevgeniy Timoshenko (163,400), Faraz Jaka (140,000), Ben Tollerene (136,000) and Darren Elias (110,000).

Antonio Esfandiari's (78,000) hopes of a second Five Diamond Classic title are alive, as are Joe Hachem's (70,100).

Phil Hellmuth headlined the early bust outs. Joining the brat on the rail were the likes of Phil Laak, Liv Boeree and former NFL star Richard Seymour.
