Italian poker player Mustapha Kanit won the €25,750 ($28,792) buy-in high-roller event at the Dublin stop of the European Poker Tour (EPT) on Sunday evening to bank €501,640 ($560,863) in cash.
The PokerStars-owned tournament series opened from the Royal Dublin Society on February 9 and is due to sign off this weekend with a series of games including the final of its €5,300 ($5,926) buy-in main event.Italy’s all-time leading poker money winner with almost €4.9 million ($5.5 million) in career earnings, Kanit took down the EPT’s largest ever buy-in event after overcoming some 70 others and beginning the final table with the chip lead. The London resident nearly ended the no-limit single re-entry tournament with a double elimination after the action had turned three-handed. He opened with pocket kings and saw Charlie Carrel from England shove pocket fives before American Chance Kornuth attempted to isolate him with an ace-high. He then called but had to start over again after his opponents improved to a set and a wheel respectively.Despite having pocket kings cracked once more by Kornuth after Carrel had been eliminated in third, Kanit won a flip for all the chips thanks to pocket threes against Kornuth’s big ace.EPT Dublin €25,750 Buy-In High-Roller Results:1 Mustapha Kanit (Italy) - €501,640 ($560,863)2 Chance Kornuth (USA) - €360,150 ($402,695)3 Charlie Carrel (UK) - €234,100 ($261,754)4 Anton Bertilsson (Sweden) - €176,640 ($197,506)5 Jeff Rossiter (Australia) - €137,200 ($153,399)6 Keith Johnson (UK) - €106,330 ($118,877)7 Nick Petrangelo (USA) - €84,040 ($93,963)8 Ivan Luca (Argentina) - €65,170 ($72,865)9 Martin Jacobson (Sweden) - €49,730 ($55,602)Image courtesy of EPT
