Mustapha Kanit Takes SCOOP Main
Wednesday, 27 May 2015
The 2015 World Series of Poker (WSOP) gets underway today and if there's one player who could be in line for a bracelet this summer, it's Mustapha Kanit.
Earlier this month the Italian pro took down the EPT Grand Final's €50,000 Super High Roller for €936,500 and earlier this week he followed that up with a victory in PokerStars' Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) Main Event.
The $10,000 online event was the showpiece of PokerStars' latest series and by the time the registration desks had closed, an impressive 694 players had anted up which meant the prizepool stood at $6,940,000.
As expected, many of the world's finest live and online tournament pros were in action, including the likes of Dan Cates, Viktor Blom and Richard Lyndaker, aka 'nutsinho'. However, by the time the final table rolled around on Monday, it was Kanit pushing for the title ahead of some stiff competition.
When the final table got underway it was Austria's Tonio Röder who caused the first elimination; however, it was Kanit who quickly stepped in to take control. After eliminating Shaun Deeb with Ac Qc, Kanit was able to kick on and accrue enough chips to book himself a showdown with Emil Patel.
Holding a 3-1 chip lead at this point, Kanit held his nerve while Patel mounted a mini-comeback and eventually took home the title with Qs Qd. Following a flurry of betting, all the money went in with the board showing Jd Qh 9h Qs Ts.
At this point Kanit's quad queens were more than enough to beat Patel's Js Th and scoop the $1,304,720 top prize.
