Mo 'Truth' Haque heads English Poker Open

Thursday, 20 September 2012

Both of the opening flights of the English Poker Open are in the book with 63 of the 138 survivors returning later today. The man to beat is Mo 'Truth' Haque who accumulated a massive stack of 178,000 on Day 1B, over 60,000 ahead of closest rival Igor Kurganov who topped the Day 1A counts.

Haque has fond memories of the Fox Poker Club having won the Shaftesbury Avenue venue's monthly Main Event a year ago.

Other notables to enjoy a good Day 1B included our own Ben Jackson (109,400), PokerStars pro Micky 'mement_mori' Petersen (102,600), German pro Manig Loeser (75,600) and Surinder Sunar (56,350).

They will be joined by the likes of Neil Channing, Sam Trickett, Chris Bjorin and defending champion Fabian Quoss when play resumes this afternoon with the remaining field competing for a share of a prize pool of £276,000.

The chip leaders are as follows:

Mo Haque 178,000
Igor Kurganov 117,450
Rhys Jones 116,100
Ben Jackson 109,400
Ian Simpson 103,625
Micky Petersen 102,600
Mathew Frankland 99,175
Marvin Babul 92,725
Steve Watts 90,375
Chris Bjorin 86,575

The average stack is 50,800.
