Mistake Pays Dividends for Paul Findlay

Mistake Pays Dividends for Paul Findlay

Tuesday, 16 September 2014

Mistakes rarely turn out as well as the one made by Peter Findlay. The 29-year-old thought he'd qualified for next month's UKIPT London Main Event rather than the £250 UKIPT Series event which took place at the Hippodrome over the weekend.

Findlay put whatever disappointment he might have felt quickly behind him by topping a field of 356 entrants to walk away with a career-best live score of £12,396.

After Onur Dag was eliminated in fifth, the final quartet agreed a four-way chop with £3,500 on top for the winner. Garcia Damaso was the first of the four to go after Khashayar Zarghampour hit a runner, runner straight to beat his flopped two-pair.

Zarghampour followed soon after, his Q7 unable to outrun Mario Trattou's K5. Findlay wouldn't be stopped though, eventually sealing the deal with a slow-played pair of pocket aces which turned into trips by the turn.

In addition to the cash and the trophy, Findlay also earned a seat in the UKIPT Champion of Champions event.

And what will he do with his winnings? Findlay told the PokerStars blog. "It's my 30th next year. My friends have already booked to go to Vegas. Plus I'm going to give 10% to UK military charity Help for Heroes - I'm an ambassador for them after they helped me when I lost a leg in Afghanistan."
