The World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP) from PokerStars saw its $51,000 buy-in Super High Roller event get underway on Saturday with the field standing at an impressive 46.

Featuring some of the best grinders on the planet, the high stakes spectacle has a total prize pool of $2.3 million, which means that the eventual winner will walk away with $851,000.

Among the early runners making a bid for the title was Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier and Isaac Haxton but it was Mike McDonald leading the chip count following the conclusion of Day 1.

With eight players left, the young Canadian has more than 20,000 chips than his closest rival, 'Cekajas14' from the UK, but he'll have his work cut out making it into the money thanks to an all-star cast chasing his lead.

Among the final eight looking to burst through the sixth placed money bubble and lock up at least $126,500 is the likes of Ben Tollerene, 'dpeters17' and reigning WCOOP main event champion Fedor Holz.

For those wishing to wager on the final stages of the event, PokerStars' relatively new online sportsbook will be running a market until 12:30 New York time before the action subsequently starts. As well as pre-game betting markets, players can watch the action live via PokerStars' game client and via a replay of the finale tomorrow.
