Mian Wei Clinches High Roller

Mian Wei Clinches High Roller

Wednesday, 4 November 2015

The action from the £5,250 ($8,085) buy-in High Roller event at the Nottingham stop of the World Poker Tour (WPT) ended last night with Mian Wei walking away richer to the tune of £100,000 ($153,898).

Part of the partypoker WPT UK tournament, the High Roller saw 48 players including the likes of James Akenhead, Chris Sly and Michael Mizrachi go at it inside Nottingham's Dusk Till Dawn.

Despite allowing more players to buy-in on the second day, Wei stood strong in the final stages and eventually clinched the title after beating Mario Sanchez Cano heads-up.

First to fall in the finale was Billy Chattaway after his A-K couldn't find a way past Mizrachi's 6-4. This early elimination opened the proverbial floodgates and eventually led to the demise of Daniel McAulay, Mizrachi and the main event runner-up at the recent Barcelona stop of the European Poker Tour (EPT), Steven Warburton.

With only Cano and Wei left in the hunt for the title, a three-hour heads-up battle ensued with the combatants swapping the chip lead numerous times. Eventually, the match was brought to a close after Wei's pocket sixes were enough to overcome the pocket threes held by Cano.
