Matthew Adams wins GSOP Prague

Monday, 17 December 2012

Christmas has come early for Matthew Adams. The Briton scooped the GSOP Live event in Prague for €106,200 after outlasting a record-breaking field of 590 runners in the Czech capital over the weekend.

Adams enjoys his trips to Prague having secured his best ever live score in last year's GSOP Live event in the city. He absolutely smashed that payday though after working his way through a 2012 final table that included WSOP bracelet winners Craig McCorkell and current Estonian international footballer Joel Lindpere.

Adams, who started the day with the second shortest stack, was largely a bystander in the early stages as Finn Tapio Vihakas effected a string of eliminations. He got just the boost he needed after knocking out Rocco Palumbo in fifth though and maintained that momentum for the remainder of play.

McCorkell's bid to add another title to his WSOP bracelet stalled in fourth when he couldn't come from behind with J10 to beat Vihakas' A8. A mistimed call helped send Amit Zulkowitz to the rail next. The Israeli acted out of turn holding bottom pair and was put all in by Adams who had flopped top pair. Zulkowitz was forced to call and was left crippled as a result. He bowed out soon after.

Adams went into heads up play against Vihakas with a more than two to one chip lead and sealed the deal soon after. All the chips hit the middle on a 7hJh2h board with the Finn's Js5h well behind Adams's AhJd. The turn and river missed Vihakas' limited number of out to give the Briton his biggest live score to date.

1. Matt Adams €106,200
2. Tapio Vihakas €70,800
