Matt Davenport collected £37,000 ($55,777) on Sunday after topping a field of 360 runners and taking down the final leg of the Genting Poker Series (GPS) in Sheffield.
The finale of 2015’s tenth and final GPS leg started with 20 players still chasing glory with Iwan Jones the first of this field to go after his AQ lost on a flip to the jacks held by Nigel Ventre. The AQ combination also proved the undoing of Sean Rigley after he lost out to the 8s of Ali Mallu before Chris Cancelliere, Chris Karanikki, Mian Wei and birthday boy Sam Bailey joined him on the rail.Ventre, Mallu and Davenport were then left to slug it out for the title with Ventre's challenge eventually stalling in third with his A8 was unable to hit against Mallu's pocket 5s. Davenport had the better of the remaining action and won the £440 ($664) buy-in tournament after his 6-7 prevailed against his short-stacked opponent's 10-3.Davenport has previous for putting in big performances at this time of year and pocketed a career-best £70,600 ($106,348) after finishing third at the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Grand Final in November of 2013.GPS Sheffield Results:1 Matt Davenport - £37,0002 Ali Mallu - £24,5003 Nigel Ventre - £15,9004 Mian Wei - £9,7205 Sam Bailey - £7,3406 Chris Karanikki - £6,1407 Chris Cancelliere - £4,8308 Sean Rigley - £3,7409 Iwan Jones - £2,950Image courtesy of Genting Poker
