For the first time since 2012 there's a home win to report in the Aussie Millions after Manny Stavropoulos took the Main Event honours on Sunday.
Stavropoulos started the seven-man final table as one of the short stacks but managed to safely navigate his way through a high class field.American online pro Richard Lyndaker was the first of the seven to see his title hopes go up in smoke when his pocket aces were cracked by Lennart Uphoff's pocket sixes. Aussie Anthony Legg soon joined him at the cashiers' cage followed by the most notable name at the final table, Brian Rast. The two-time WSOP bracelet winner started the day as the short stack and laddered his way up to fifth until he too ran into Uphoff. The chips hit the middle with just the river to come with Rast needing a spade for a flush to crack the German's pocket aces. The deck failed to oblige, leaving the Denver-native with a not inconsiderable consolation prize of AU$315,000.The last Brit standing, James Rann was the next to go, his pocket deuces unable to overhaul Uphoff's pocket jacks. The German was at it again soon after, consigning Joel Douaglin to the rail in third. The stage looked set for Uphoff to continue his final table demolition but the home-favourite wouldn't be denied. With the stacks roughly level, the final pair agreed a chop that gave Stavropoulos AU$1,285,000 and Uphoff AU$1,214,500. That left AU$100,000 to play for, not mention the bracelet and some serious bragging rights. In the end it took a cooler to separate them with the Aussies jack-high straight just pipping Uphoff's 10-high equivalent.Aussie Millions Main Event Final Table Positions and Payouts1st: Manny Stavropoulos - $1,385,500*2nd: Lennart Uphoff - $1,214,500*3rd: Joel Douaglin - $630,0004th: James Rann - $430,0005th: Brian Rast - $315,0006th: Anthony Legg - $235,0007th: Richard Lyndaker - $160,000Image courtesy of Kenneth Lim / Asia Pacific Poker Tour.
