Lewis Hunter has won the opening leg of the new Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) season. The Scot outran a 171-runner field at Manchester's G Casino to pocket a first prize of almost £50,000.
It could have all been so very different for Hunter though, who was in real danger of being the tournament bubble boy. All in with pocket tens against Kev Steele's aces, Hunter spiked a tournament changing ten to put him right back in contention.Hunter took that momentum through to the final table and once again locked horns with Kev Steele when play went heads up. The Scot managed to overturn a two to one chip lead against the double PokerStars Sunday Million winner, eventually sealing the win on an ace high board with A10 against Steele's A9. The final table positions and payouts were as follows:1st £49,600 Lewis Hunter2nd £34,630 Kev Steele3rd £21,800 Allan Doyle4th £13,250 Danny Blair5th £10,260 Sam Grafton6th £8,120 Gary Holden7th £6,410 Gonzalez Garcia8th £4,700 John Hanley9th £3,420 Chris KadjiWalsall's Grosvenor Casino is the venue for the next stop on the GUKPT with the £1,000 Main Event starting on Friday 16th March.
