Justin Young heads day 2 of Doyle Brunson Classic.

Wednesday, 17 December 2008

Just fewer than 400 players survived Days 1A and 1B of the $15,000 Doyle Brunson Classic Championship but now less than 150 remain. Just some of the big names lost in the flurry of chips and cards include Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Paul Wasicka, Phil Laak, Erick Lindgren, Isabelle Mercier, Greg Raymer, Justin Bonomo, Jordan Morgan, Jennifer Harman, Andrew “Good2CU” Robl and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier.

However, not all the pros are left. Antonio Esfandiari, David Benyamine and Phil Hellmuth have all had a good first two days, setting themselves up for deep runs in the tournament by building themselves a top 10 stack.

John Phan, dual WSOP 2008 bracelet-winner, also busted on Day 2. This added further intrigue to the tournament as Phan is currently top of the CardPlayer Player of the Year leaderboard. His elimination means there is a chance for someone to snatch a last-minute victory in the dying days of 2008.

Ivan ‘final tables are easy’ Demidov needs to reach the heads-up stages and Erik Seidel/Michael Binger will take the POTY prize if they win outright.
