John Gray wins International Poker Open

Monday, 18 October 2010

Yesterday proved to be a Gray day in Dublin but it hadn't nothing to do with the weather. The Gray in question was John Gray who won the Boylepoker.com International Poker Open at the city's Regency Hotel.

Gray, from Drogheda, navigated his way through a massive 1,293 field to set up a heads up encounter with Eddie Landy. Pockets pairs are normally good heads up and Gray must have been delighted when he managed to get all the chip in with pocket jacks against a short stacked Landy's 10d4d. Two diamonds on the flop and turn gave Landy some home but a blank on the river gave Gray the title. The County Louth man pocketed €50,100 for the win, a fine return for a €200 investment.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 John Gray €50,600
2 Eddie Landy €33,683
3 Aidan Connelly €23,538
4 Gavin Flynn €17,735
5 Vincent Cosgrove €13,944
6 Conor Reddy €11,416
7 Craig Borrer €9,395
8 Leon Pascal €7,057
9 Daniel Ward €4,618

To cap a fine weekend of poker the International Poker Open was named the Best Irish Poker Festival at The Irish Poker Awards that took place last night.
