The latest edition of the World Series Of Poker Europe (WSOPE) got underway on Thursday and British professional player John Gale is well on his way to scooping the festival's €550 ($625) buy-in 'Oktoberfest' no-limit hold'em event.

After battling back from illness this summer, Gale scooped his second World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet in Event #18 to net $298,290 and now leads Event #2 of the WSOPE with 2,892,000 chips.

Battling through a field that contained the likes of Niall Farrell, Asher Coniff and Shaun Deeb, Gale now sits comfortably ahead of Rodrigo Caprioli and Steve O'Dwyer going into today's final.

The final table will start from Berlin's Spielbank with every one of the nine competitors having already banked at least €16,935 ($19,258) but it is sure to be the €157,749 ($179,381) top reward that most are hoping to bag.
