Joe Tehan produced a devastating display of poker to take the NAPT Los Angeles Main Event title last night, eliminating all seven of his final table opponents en route to a $725,000 score.
The 30-year-old started the day as one of the shorter stacks but an early double up with kings over ace king proved to the start of a truly incredible run. Tehan won a trio of coin flips to eliminate Jake Toole, Jason Mercier and Michael Binger then came from behind to send Anh Van Nguyen and Ray Henson to the rail in a three-way all in. After eliminating Al Grimes in third place only long time chip leader Chris DeMaci was left for the Tehan juggernaut. After two hours of cagey heads up play Tehan sealed the win when both player flopped top pair on a king high board. Needless to say Tehan's kicker was better leaving the soon to be married Las Vegas native better off to the tune of $725,000.Tehan was gracious enough to recognise that the cards had been with him throughout his extraordinary run. "I ran really, really good today. I won a lot of coin flips," he said. "I won all the hands that were 50-50. It feels great. I'm happy with the way I played." Tehan, who now has tournament winnings of over $3m added, “I really don’t travel much to play a lot of tournaments. They’re really stressful and I get enough of that at home (laughter). But I’ve heard the PCA is a great, great tournament and it sounds like a lot of fun, so maybe I’ll end up doing that.”The final table positions and payouts were as follows:1: Joe Tehan - $725,0002: Chris DeMaci - $440,0003: Al Grimes - $250,0004: Anh Van Nguyen - $195,0005: Ray Henson - $145,0006: Michael Binger - $114,0007: Jason Mercier - $84,8578: Jake Toole - $60,000Keep up to date with all the news from the poker world by following us on Twitter and Facebook.
