Jeff Madsen leads WPT Borgata Day 1b as chip leader

Tuesday, 20 September 2011

The second opening flight of the World Poker Tour Borgata has been completed with a total of 1,313 entries and re-entries skyrocketing the prize pool to more than $4,000,000 and making it the largest WPT Borgata ever. It also helped that for the first time, the WSOPE was not running concurrently.

Last year, the record was set at 1,054 but the lack of WSOPE, reduced buy-in of $3,500 and re-entry format all but guaranteed a smash of that record. Emerging on top of the pile as Day 1b concluded was double bracelet-winner Jeff Madsen, who racked up over 200,000 chips to put him in second place overall when Day 2 begins.

Madsen was one of 142 players who stumped up an additional $3,500 to re-enter and it seems to have paid off. He earned $5,000 for finishing the day as chip leader so he’s only $2,000 down on the event so far and seems likely to use his stack to make at least a mincash in the top 100 players.
Matt Affleck and David Williams were two more of the 142 and both finished in the top ten in chip counts with over 150,000 apiece. Other players who made it through to Day 2 include Robert Mizrachi, Maria Ho, Kathy Liebert, Gavin Smith and Dan Shak.
