Jamie Burland wins UKIPT Brighton
Monday, 19 July 2010
259 players gathered at the Rendezvous Casino in Brighton over the weekend for the latest leg of the PokerStars UK and Ireland Poker Tour and after 26 levels of hard fought poker it was Jamie Burland who had most reason to cheer.
The young Black Belt Poker player went into last night's final table as one of the big stacks and kept up the momentum throughout, setting up a heads up clash with the Czech Republic's Tomas Cibak after winning a huge pot against 63-year-old Texan Bill Seber. It was a classic coin flip with the young Brit's A10 outrunning the experienced American's pocket nines.
The super-aggressive Cibak went into two-handed play with a slight chip lead but Burland took charge just six hands in making a very brave call with top pair. The end came minutes later with all the chips going in on a Qs7d4s board. Burland showed Qh4h for two pair with Cibak revealing 10s8s for a flush draw. A 10d on the turn gave the young Czech player some more outs but a blank on the river gave Burland the title and with it the £65,400 first prize.
London based Burland learnt the game while studying at Brighton University and said, “I’m really happy... it feels like a home win.” adding “I think I’ll be at the rest of the UKIPT’s now, I’m definitely going to try and win the leaderboard.”
The final table positions and payouts were as follows:
