High Stakes Poker Fight Averted

High Stakes Poker Fight Averted

Thursday, 20 August 2015

A potential fight between two of the world's top high-stakes poker players almost came to fruition last night as David 'Doc' Sands and Douglas Polk tried to agree terms.

Keen to stress that there wasn't any beef between them and that discussions were purely financial, the two players told Twitter that they were thinking about a boxing match worth between $100,000 and $500,000.

Aside from being two of the more physical poker players in the game, Sands and Polk probably felt somewhat obliged to keep up the time-honoured tradition of pros slugging it out for large sums of money.

Indeed, in the past the likes of Gus Hansen, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier and even Liv Boeree have donned a pair of gloves a punched it out for cash. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Sands and Polk will be joining that list.

Despite Polk suggesting a timeframe of three weeks, it seems as though Sands wanted a little more time to train. Stating that he'd fight his peer in six months, Sands also agreed to a purse worth $500,000.

Polk wasn't willing to budge on his terms, however, which means, for now, the fight is off. Confirming this via Twitter, Polk reiterated that he doesn't have a problem with Sands, but a deal couldn't be reached.

"After talking with @Doc_Sands, we are unable to reach an agreement on timeframe. He wants within four weeks and I want six months to train," said Polk.

Whether or not the two will resume their negotiations in the coming weeks remains to be seen.
