Hellmuth, Black and Dempsey among 49 left at Irish Open

Sunday, 8 April 2012

Just 49 players are still in contention for the €420,000 first prize at the paddypowerpoker.com Irish Open and there are a number of very notable names amongst that number.

The biggest of those names is Phil Hellmuth who returns to the Burlington Hotel nestled in the middle of the leader board on 134,500, just 1,000 chips behind home favourite Andrew Black. James Dempsey, fresh from his iSeries LIVE victory, is also in the hunt on 275,000 as are Julian Gardner 257,500, Kevin Vandermissen 186,600 and PKR pro Scott Shelley 122,500.

The man to beat though is London based German Manig Loeser who eliminated Victor Ramdin and Matt Perrins en route to building a stack of 846,000. Loeser, who has cashed at a number of WSOP events and has a Euro Masters of Poker title to his name, earned his biggest score with a runner up finish at last year's GUKPT London. He'll have his eye on something even bigger by tomorrow eventing though.

The action resumes at noon today.
