American Scott Davies was the toast of Melbourne on Saturday after taking down the World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific Main Event.
The Vancouver-based pro enjoyed an excellent WSOP in Vegas earlier this year, cashing six times including a fourth place finish in the $10k Heads Up. The one thing missing was a bracelet but Davies made no mistake in Australia's second city.Davies safely worked his way through a final table that included Ang Italiano, two-time WSOP bracelet winner, Kyle Montgomery and Henry Wang to set up a heads up battle with Britain's Jack Salter. The Londoner finished runner-up in the 2014 EPT Grand Final and was destined to once again be the bridesmaid Down Under. The pair started two-handed play, deep stacked and pretty level and with play pretty cagey it seemed like only cooler to produce a winner. When it duly arrived it was positively Arctic. All the chips hit the middle on a 6h10h10s8s board with Salter tabling Qc10c for trips. Unluckily for him, Davies revealed pocket sixes for a full house! The brick on the river gave the American the title, the bracelet, and a massive $850,136 score, more than double his previous live earnings.Salter latest near miss provided him with $516,960 which will offer some consolation.“If there was ever a day to run good, this was the day to run good,” Davies told WSOP.com. “I picked up aces twice and then flopped a full house when Jack flops trips to win the event.”“The bracelet means everything to. I mean, I’d be lying if the $850,000 isn’t huge, but I decided I wasn’t coming into this final table looking to ladder up the pay jumps.”The final table payouts were as follows: 1st: Scott Davies - $850,1362nd: Jack Salter - $516,9603rd: Henry Wang - $343,8054th: Kyle Montgomery - $231,2875th: Frank Kassela - $164,0896th: Ang Italiano - $118,769 Image courtesy of Pacific Asia Poker.
