The World Poker Tour (WPT) has announced that the WPT Championship event is being scrapped from the second-half schedule of its ongoing Season XIV.
In something of a surprise announcement, the WPT revealed that the WPT Championship is to be replaced by a new WPT Tournament Of Champions event, which will take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel And Casino in Hollywood, Florida, from April 21 to 23.In an effort to make the season-ending event a true championship affair, the WPT stated that the $15,400 buy-in WPT Tournament Of Champions is set to be an invitational occasion reserved for Season XIV champions and members of its WPT Champions Club.“By combining Season XIV winners and WPT Champions Club members, the season-ending WPT Tournament Of Champions will truly be a championship event,” said Adam Pliska, President and Chief Executive Officer for the WPT.“We will promote the ‘champion of champions’ to our millions of television viewers and to the thousands of players in the community for seasons to come, solidifying the winner’s place in the WPT’s rich history.”
