Garcia wins WPT National Barcelona

London and Luton weren't the only places handing out big sums of cash to poker players over the weekend. There was a very healthy crowd on hand in Spain for WPT National Event Barcelona.

Such were the numbers in fact, that the action spilled over into an extra day. In the end it was business student Edu Garcia Freixa who topped the 515-runner field and pocketed the €50,000 score.

With half the 18 players who started Sunday's scheduled finale eliminated within the first few levels, a late finish seemed unlikely, let alone a run over into Monday. But with thousands of euros on the line play got extremely cagey and a late night ensued.

It was the early hours of Monday morning when play eventually got heads up with Garcia Freixa up against close friend Josep Maria Galindo. The pair decided to call it a night and returned the following morning.

After the marathon on Sunday, the final two didn't mess around on the resumption, getting it in after just 4 hands! Garcia collected the title and his biggest live score when his A10 held against Galindo's A5.

1 Edu García Freixa €50,000
2 Josep María Galindo €33,000
3 Cristian Castro €21,000
4 Vicent Soubrie €16,000
5 Adán Soler €12,000
6 Kfir Katz €9,700
7 Mohammed El Mekssani €6,400
8 Serges Saletic €3,460
