A host of the UK's top grinders were in the capital over the weekend for WPT National London and after three days of action it was Gabriel Tuna who swam away with the prize catch.
The Londoner is no stranger to tournament success with five-figure scores to his name at the GUKPT, Genting Poker SeriesPKR Live and at the much-missed Fox Poker Club. He added another £22,000 to his bankroll after topping an impressive field in the accumulator format event at Aspers in Stratford.26 players started the final day in east London with Tuna holding the chip lead. He was largely troubled throughout the day, building a dominating chip lead at the start of the nine-person final table and looking odds on for the title.Svetlin Ivanov had other ideas though, hitting draw after draw to move from a super short stack to the heads up chip lead. Tuna battle back though and eventually sealed the deal with an unlikely ace-high offering. The chips hit the middle on a 5d-2c-3c-10c board with Tuna slightly ahead with Ad8c. Ivanov had plenty of outs though holding KcJs for a better flush draw. The blank 6s on the river helped neither player and sent Ivanov to the rail with a consolation prize of £15,165.1 Gabriel Tuna £22,0002 Svetlin Ivanov £15,1653 Anooj Sareen £9,7604 Mantas Zeringis £7,2305 James Charlton £5,4106 James Greenwood £4,3607 Quoc Nong £3,6008 Mo Shanehzan £2,9009 Tristan Chaplin £2,160Image courtesy of PartyPoker Blog.
