The Luton stop of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) came to a conclusion on Sunday evening with Will Davies taking down the main event title and its £65,550 cash prize.
Entering the final session in 13th place, Davies gradually built upon the momentum he'd generated on Saturday to breeze through the final 23 and join the final table as one of the dominant stacks.Trailing the imposing chip stack held by Richard Kellett, Davies sat tight on his stack as the finale got underway before making a move. Watching as Carl Spicer, Wai Yuen, Mart Bader and Ben Morrison hit the rail, Davies patiently bided his time before making a move for the championship trophy. With four players left, the action lasted for two hours before Davies broke the deadlock. After watching Janis Peternieks commit his stack with Ts 3h, Davies made the call with Ah Td and watched as the board failed to throw up any surprises. That hand left just three players in the mix and gave Gary Banks the opportunity to eliminate the early favourite, Kellett, a reduce the field to two. Banks held a healthy chip lead but within a few hands Davies had redressed the balance to move ahead. With the momentum on his side, Davies sealed the deal and picked up the GUKPT Luton main event trophy after his Ac Tc was enough to beat Banks' Td 9c. After collecting the remainder of his opponent's chips, a jubilant Davies was able to pose for the cameras and collect a cool £65,550 for his efforts.GUKPT Luton 2015 Main Event Result:1.
